Field Trips

Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) Field Trips

Field trips are held at Runway Park- walk around the park, watch planes take off and land every five minutes, talk about aviation, and sit inside a Cessna150 aircraft for a familiarization/photo opportunity.

Tuesdays and Thursdays (excluding holidays) with flexible times to accommodate any group: 9am, 10am,  11:30am, 12pm, or 1pm.

Tours last approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Groups larger than 40 will be split into smaller groups and rotate.

THIS FIELD TRIP IS OUTSIDE SO IT IS WEATHER DEPENDENT.  IF WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE POOR ON YOUR SCHEDULED FIELD TRIP DAY, YOU MAY RESCHEDULE YOUR VISIT. We will do our best based on availability.

There is a $5 donation per child. All money goes back to the park.  Pay at the time of your tour or beforehand by cash, check or credit card. Make checks payable to the Greenville Airport Commission or “GAC."  Invoices sent by request, email kim@greenvilledowntownairport.com.

Adult supervision is required. No charge for chaperones. Please ensure you have enough chaperones to control the children with a ratio of 1:12.

Advance reservations are required.  We will not reserve the date and time without a field trip request form. The reservations are first come, first serve. We reserve the right to cancel field trips at any time.  There is a minimum number of 15 children or minimum charge of $75 for a tour. There is a possibility to combine with another tour if the other groups allows it.

All tours will meet at the picnic hangar on the right of Runway Park. Please make sure to program your navigation for Runway Park and not the Greenville Downtown Airport.

Please check the calendar link at the bottom for availability. A date listed means that time is taken.

We try to tailor field trips for groups based on the age of the children. Please notify us about specific learning objectives or needs.

There is a picnic hangar that seats 80 adults available for reservations by going to the Runway Park page.  Please let us know if you are eating lunch after the tour. Hangars are first come, first serve unless reserved. Go to the Runway Park to reserve.

If you prefer to have a bag lunch prepared by the Runway Cafe or reserve their hangar, please contact them at 864-991-8488 to schedule. Other businesses can deliver to the area.
