Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) Tours and Field Trips
For a $5 per person donation to Runway Park, the Greenville Downtown Airport will open its doors to you for an airport tour or field trip. This can be paid at the time of your visit. Cash or checks preferred. Checks should be made out to the Greenville Airport Commission. Adult supervision is required. Please have enough adult chaperons for the number and age of the children that you bring. For schools: If you have teachers and volunteers who are assisting, we will waive their $5 donation. Tours rely on airport volunteers to help so we prefer to have groups of about 30 participants at a time. Tours are usually conducted Monday - Friday (excluding holidays) starting at 10 am and lasting about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Advance reservations required. Airport reserves the right to cancel tours and field trips at any time.
1. For groups consisting of rising 6th graders (usually means 11- 12 year olds) and older: Tours start in the Main Terminal's Lobby located at 100 Tower Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. See location map for directions: http://www.greenvilledowntownairport.com/DirectionsVicinityMap.html
Tour guides and locations visited may vary due to availability but we try to include: Information about aviation careers, seeing an aircraft up close (many times people can get inside of one), visiting the air traffic control tower, meeting a pilot, learning about the Greenville Downtown Airport and seeing what happens behind closed doors in an aircraft maintenance shop!
2. For all ages and group sizes: Guided field trips are conducted within and by Runway Park at GMU! Features an opportunity to climb inside a real aircraft! THIS FIELD TRIP IS OUTSIDE SO IT IS WEATHER DEPENDENT. IF WEATHER IS PREDICTED TO BE BAD ON YOUR SCHEDULED FIELD TRIP DAY, YOU WILL NEED TO RESCHEDULE YOUR VISIT.
On nice weather days, many groups like to go to Runway Park at GMU after their visit. See: http://www.greenvilledowntownairport.com/RunwayParkatGMU.html for details. You can reserve the picnic hangar and bring lunch if you want. Details can be found at http://www.greenvilledowntownairport.com/PicnicHangarReservations.html
