11th Annual Take Flight 5k

the 11th annual Take Flight 5k and 1 mile run. Weather is always a factor in a race. The rain cleared up and allowed us to have the largest and most successful race ever with 895 runners participating in the 5k and 143 runners participating in the 1 mile runs. This is our fundraiser for Runway Park. The park was created with money from the community and it is for the community. We want share our love of aviation with you. We are well on our way of building a new playground structure and shaded 6 top seating areas this year thanks to you.

FOD Walk 2023

Participants gathered at the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) on August 19, 2023, to pick up foreign object debris (FOD) from the runway. This annual FOD Walk, conducted on National Aviation Day, highlights that debris on a runway can exponentially damage planes and injure airport workers when thrown from a propellor or jet wash.

This is one of two times a year that the Greenville Downtown Airport offers a unique opportunity for the community to be on the runways. Approximately 67 people participated in the event from individuals to various organizations.

10th Annual Take Flight 5K

Our 10th Annual Take Flight 5k and 1 mile run was a huge success despite the windy weather. This was the biggest race to date with over 690 registered runners.

This fundraiser helps raise money for Runway Park. The park was created with money from the community and it is for the community. We want share our love of aviation with you. We are 1/3 of the way closer to our goal of adding new playground equipment. Don’t forget to mark your calendars now for next year and tag us in your posts.

9th Annual Take Flight 5K

The 9th Annual Take Flight 5K was the biggest one ever.

Who doesn't want to run in the best and flattest race in the Upstate at the busiest general aviation airport in South Carolina? All net proceeds go to Runway Park. We raised enough to build an additional picnic hangar and create more shade.

The race started by honoring our fallen heroes with a Memorial Day Ceremony conducted by the Civil Air Patrol. Hot 98.1 FM was there with Dex and UberQueen. Such a great event! Look for it about the same time next year!

Warbird Adventures 2021

This was the first year Warbird Adventures came to the Greenville Downtown Airport

Warbird Adventures vintage aircraft flight school gave the community an opportunity to see World War II aircraft up close and offered flights around Greenville. The P40 Warhawk American Dream and the T-6 Texan planes were on display. Historic military vehicles and a flea market from the MHCC Museum, a quick class about aviation from the Civil Air Patrol, and other hands on events from various vendors were all on display!

Foreign Object Debris..

FOD is a problem on any airport runway. It causes damage to engines and planes. It can also injure runway workers when jets take off. It is a constant battle.

Our annual FOD walk that is open to the public during Aviation Week and happens mid-August.

It is a good day to network and help clean up the runway. We will expand this event in the future for businesses.
